Director of Finance – Hotel Division

This is a Full-time position in Vaughan, ON posted September 20, 2022.

The Tidan Hospitality and Real Estate Group is a dynamic real estate organization, headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Since its founding in 1970, Tidan has assembled an extensive and diverse portfolio of self-managed revenue-producing properties in both Canada and the United States.

The portfolio includes office, retail, industrial and residential buildings, as well as a group of affiliated hotels and one of North America’s largest indoor tennis facilities.

Tidan has proudly applied its combined experience in the hospitality and construction sectors to the redevelopment of the historic Mount Stephen mansion in Montreal’s iconic Golden Square Mile and the recent acquisition of the magnificent Marriott Château Champlain.

Director of Finance – Hotel Division Reporting to the Executive Vice President and COO as well as the Tidan executive, you will work closely with the financial controllers of each hotel.

This position has several interesting aspects, including a significant degree of autonomy as well as a work environment conducive to development.

Description of tasks: 1.

Hire, supervise, train, coach and manage Hospitality Division Controllers.

2.

Plan, organize, review and ensure the timely preparation of annual budgets for the Hospitality Division.

3.

Ensure the accurate and timely production of monthly and annual financial statements for all Hospitality division sites.

4.

Manage the year-end process with controllers and be the main liaison for the hospitality division with the external audit firm 5.

Ensure month-end and year-end files are prepared on time and review controllers’ work.

6.

Prepare high-level executive reports to present the financial situation to executives.

7.

Review and improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the hospitality division.

8.

Hold controllers committee meetings to establish a strong team approach between the various controllers.

9.

Ensure compliance with all corporate reporting and accounting controls in all aspects of the hospitality division.

10.

Execute due diligence procedures for all hospitality acquisitions and disposals.

11.

Use strategic analysis and global vision to improve the overall performance, growth and profitability of the Hospitality division.

12.

Control costs and implement strict control systems over purchasing, AP, AR, credit, sales cycle and inventory processes and procedures.

13.

Maintain and optimize the software systems used in the accounting function.

14.

Perform spot checks and random audits on internal control systems for compliance.

15.

Occasional site visits between Tidan properties in Montreal and surrounding areas.

Academic education:
• Bachelor’s degree in administration and/or
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting: Chartered Professional (CPA) and/or Chartered Accountant (CA) – and/or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) – and/or Certified General Accountant (CGA)
– Years of experience required:
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role
• Experience in hotel accounting is essential Languages ¿¿:
• Perfectly bilingual written and spoken (French and English) Computer skills:
• Strong Microsoft Excel and related computer skills required (Office Suite)
• Knowledge of software (IQWare/Opera)

• Must be system oriented, organized and methodical in approach to accounting
• Must have solid leadership skills to train and mentor a strong accounting team
• Maximizes communication channels
• Knowledge of the hotel environment

• Planning and organizational skills to achieve the targeted objectives This is a non-unionized position, the salary offered is based on experience.
