Senior Accountant


This is a Full-time position in Vaughan, ON posted July 26, 2022.

Your new company Hays Specialist Recruitment has partnered with an Leading Insurance Company.

We are looking to hire a Senior Investment Accountant to join their team on a contract basis of 7 months, which has the possibility of extension/ permanency.

This candidate will be working hybrid and from their Downtown Toronto office 1 day a week.

Your new role As a Senior Investment Accountant you will be a key member of the companies finance team.

You will lead and prepare the monthly investment close, assist in preparing financial statement schedules, regulatory reports and industry surveys for the organization.

You will work primarily in a team environment that is challenging and provides the opportunity to learn and grow; and that values employees who will participate in and drive process improvement change initiatives.

Lead and prepare the monthly investment accounting close by working closely with our 3rd party investment accounting partner and external custodian Prepare monthly investment accounting entries, account reconciliations, accruals and variance analysis Assist in preparing management financial statements for IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) in keeping with the reporting schedule of the company Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements schedules for our regulator, OSFI and BMA Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual industry and government surveys, annual and quarterly disclosure questionnaire for consolidation Participate in IFRS 17/IFRS 9 implementation project Lead and prepare the annual pension statements by working closely with our external pension partners Assist in maintaining and improving the organizations control environment by assessing and improving key controls Work with our external auditors on gathering audit evidence to support financial statements Participate in process improvement initiatives geared towards improving financial reporting workflow processes What you’ll need to succeed Professional accounting designation (CPA) University degree preferably in a Business/Finance capacity 3 to 5 years of financial close and reporting experience preferably with investment accounting knowledge Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and adaptable to changing priorities Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Systems savvy with a good understanding of reporting and analytics applications Strong Excel, including the ability to build and use pivot tables Effective written and verbal communication skills Strong attention to detail and proven ability to provide insightful, accurate and timely analysis Highly motivated with a desire to be successful and learn Solid business acumen Strong process skills (ability to break down and improve workflow) would be an asset What you need to do now If you’re interested in this role, click ‘apply now’ to forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, or call us now.
