Millwright Apprentice

The primary duties of Millwright Apprentice are to build on his/her skills to maintain, troubleshoot and repair various CNC and manual machinery throughout the plant as well as the facilities. Tasks and assignments are completed under the direction of a Senior Millwright while working towards independent completion. 

•    Ensure that individual job target hours are met
•    Ensure all spares, equipment, tooling, etc. within the department under your control are managed
•    Enhance knowledge of construction and practical application of the various machines and equipment in the CNC machining department and the overall shop
•    Build on skills in basic maintenance and repair processes and best practices with attention to safety, quality, cost and timing, with supervision
•    Perform minor repairs on selected equipment  and maintenance of general plant systems with supervision 
•    Operate crane, fork truck and high reach equipment
•    Acquire the necessary information to assist with maintenance and repair process(es) to specifications from vendor supplied schematics, data, drawings and instructions with regards to hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical components and operation
•    Under the direction of a Senior Millwright, assist in the manufacture, modification or repair of components that may be required on machinery or in the plant
•    Safely operate manual saws, lathes and milling/drilling machines to manufacture, modify or repair components that may be required on machinery or in the plant
•    Assist in the repair various types of pumps and related valves, with supervision
•    Remove and replace various types of bearings and seals
•    Assist with the repair of drive systems on machines such as ball screw, linear guide, belt or direct drive, etc, as well as screw and belt type conveyor systems
•    Weld using oxy/acetylene, TIG and MIG, under supervision
•    Safely and effectively rig and handle various sizes, shapes and weights of machinery and equipment; grow skills in this area
•    Understand the information required to assist with maintenance and repair process(s) to specifications from vendor supplied schematics, data, drawings and instructions with regards to hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical components and operation
•    Work closely with senior Millwright to develop troubleshooting skills
•    Assist senior mechanical technicians in basic mechanical tasks to aid in learning and increase efficiency in the department 
•    Perform all other duties required to maintain a clean, effective and safe work environment. i.e. machine and machine component cleaning, assist in machine teardown, etc.
•    Support and interact with Service and Maintenance Specialists contracted to perform specific tasks on machines, equipment and the plant
•    Operate the Tycos Maintenance Database and Work Order system
•    Ensure consistent communication of information within the department
•    Work together with all levels of Management, Team Leaders and departments
•    Participate in and support Continuous Improvement and WCM initiatives
 

Education:

• Minimum completion of Grade 12 diploma is a requirement
• College diploma / University degree in a technical field, or equivalent experience an asset
• Actively pursuing a Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Millwright #433A

Experience:

• Currently registered as a Maintenance Millwright Apprentice
• Prior mechanical work experience in automotive industry or CNC machine shop is required

Skills:

• Possess a basic knowledge of electricity and how electrical equipment functions on our machinery
• Understanding of and ability to perform tasks at the level of completion of Basic Apprenticeship Schooling
• Basic knowledge of general plant systems and equipment
• Basic knowledge of industrial electronics
• Basic knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics and their operation
• Basic knowledge of assembled components on machinery or in the plant
• Basic understanding of various types of bearings and seals
• Basic knowledge of lubricants, greases and oils, and their use and proper application
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
• Good organizational and time management skills

Good interpersonal skills

• Good ability to analyze situations and problem solve
