Inclusive Design Lead


This is a Contract position in Vaughan, ON posted June 4, 2021.

What is the opportunity?

In this role, you will work with a cross-functional team to create, maintain and deliver a design system to a large community of designers, developers and product managers within RBC Digital.

You will be responsible for defining best practices and principles for Inclusive Design and work with the team to incorporate these into the foundations of our system.

Additionally, you will advocate for the best practices and principles throughout our community through regular workshops, training and one-on-one support.

Your efforts will help guide our journey towards better banking and set our design team up for success over the long term.

What will you do?

Acts as an advocate for client-centric design methods and a single, shared RBC client experience.

Manages relationships with partners regarding product & inclusive design, accessibility and UI components and patterns.

Works independently with key stakeholders to successfully create and reach consensus by the scheduled delivery date for projects and initiatives.

Shares insights and shows thought leadership via presentations, lunch & learns, and other forms of written and oral communications within the Design team and across the bank.

Facilitates complex design critique, evaluates designs for inclusivity and provides depth and breadth of expert advice and guidance to cross-functional teams.

Able to break down complex topics and communicate them to a broad audience.

What do you need to succeed?

Must have: BA/BS degree in Design (e.g.

interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), Systems Design / Human Factors Engineering or a related field or equivalent practical experience.

A minimum of 7 years of experience in designing and developing usable interfaces across multiple channels and platforms.

Demonstrated ability to articulate design strategy, rationale and logic; describing benefits and highlighting risks associated with design decisions Exceptional knowledge of accessibility standards for web and mobile technologies.

Demonstrated expertise with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, InVision DSM or Adobe XD.

Holistic Mindset — you think in terms of systems rather than individual parts.

Experience creating or contributing to, a design system.

Nice to have: MA/MS degree or certification in Design (e.g.

interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), Systems Design / Human Factors Engineering or a related field or equivalent practical experience or a related field.

Experience working within a large organization and within an agile environment.
