Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis

Permanent Full Time


The Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis will provide leadership in capital and operational financial planning. This role is pivotal in supporting financial sustainability and operational efficiency in all aspects of the role, including monthly performance reporting, business case development and post-implementation evaluation, external reporting and benchmarking. The manager will mentor a high performing team of Business Analysts. This role is key to ensuring the appropriate analytic tools and processes are in place to deliver effective analysis and business insight including:

  • Working with all levels of the organization to lead the development of the annual budget and forecast processes, including identifying and presenting key risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare monthly Board Performance packages, including key operational and statistical highlights driving financial performance, evaluating, and recommending solutions to financial and operational issues.
  • Providing financial support and expertise in evaluating various business initiatives and reinvestment strategies. Including facilitating educational sessions to users of the data.
  • Financial Modeling including sensitivity analysis, contribution margin, scenario analysis, costing, rate/volume analysis, budget modeling, and any other financial analysis required by senior management
  • Assisting in the development of briefing notes and reports for presentation to senior management, standing committees, and to the ministry.
  • Responsible for the preparation and completion of all financial and statistical organizational performance reporting requirements including but not limited to MOH, Ontario Health, CCO, MCYS, MOF and other external agency submissions.
  • Act as key resource for all staff on MIS Guidelines, OCDM, MOH HIT Tool, account inquiries, budget development, variances, statistical reporting, analysis of comparative trial balance data and interpretation of the for all programs/services.
  • Ongoing commitment to identify and implement process improvements for operational efficiencies and enhanced analytics.
  • Ad-hoc analysis, projects and other assignments as required.

What must you have?

  • Certified as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) in good standing.
  • Undergraduate Degree (Commerce, Accounting, Health Care Administration or Business Administration, preferred).

What else do you bring?

  • Minimum of 3 years financial analysis experience including budgeting and planning experience in a hospital or industry setting.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with astute understanding of end user’s problem statements, ability to formulate approach, identify root cause and summarize findings in a comprehensive executive summary.
  • High proficiency using Microsoft Office programs, primarily Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills with all levels of management including Senior Executives. Effective use of empathy in interactions with others.
  • Expert in modeling business cases, working with complex financial models and building effective operational management reports.
  • Multi-tasker with a solid sense of prioritization and the ability to work under pressure; well organized.
  • Problem solver with a results-oriented approach; confident in dealing with operations.
  • Initiative to keep up to date with market trends and continue to develop team.
  • Proven attendance record.
  • Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the job.

Preferably, your profile also includes:

  • Experience in a major ERP and Business Intelligence system.
  • Experience in building Excel Macros.
