Manager, Financial Reporting

Permanent Full Time

 

The Manager, Financial Reporting is an integral leadership role in supporting core financial processes and managing the Finance portfolio, including general accounting, cash management, internal controls, accounts payable, and regulatory compliance. The role is key to ensuring strong financial stewardship over the hospital’s assets and reporting processes by managing financial processes and systems. The primary accountability will be the timely and accurate preparation of the financial reporting, including the monthly financial statements, annual audit, fixed assets, and oversight of the accounts payable processing by third party. The successful applicant will supervise a team of Financial Analysts. Responsibilities will also include:

  • Lead all aspects of the Hospital’s month-end and year-end financial closing processes, including the review of the monthly financial reporting package.
  • Lead and liaise with auditors to support annual year end audit and internal audits. Including the completion of all working papers and requests, completion of the annual audited financial statements
  • Manages all aspects of the accounts payable process and is the primary liaison for Plexxus.
  • Act as an expert level point of contact within the organization for accounting and audit related issues and reporting matters.
  • Ensures reporting standards comply with Public Sector Accounting Standards, Ontario Health Report Standards and tax legislation.
  • Delivers monthly financial reports, ensuring accuracy through balance sheet reconciliations, streamlining subledger processes and improving internal processes.
  • Monitoring the financial health of the organization through key metrics and treasury management.
  • Maintains the data integrity and controls related to the financial, payroll and accounts receivable business systems.
  • Review and document complex accounting transactions, provide guidance and analyze emerging accounting issues to enable understanding of the impact to the Hospital and identify solutions
  • Provide leadership to evolve and effectively enforce best practices and internal controls.
  • Provide oversight for special purpose funds and processing of payroll entries/reconciliations.

What must you have?

  • Certified as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) in good standing.
  • Undergraduate Degree (Commerce, Accounting, Health Care Administration or Business Administration, preferred).

What else do you bring?

  • Minimum 3 years management experience leading reporting and audit activities.
  • Exceptional technical accounting skills. Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) preferred
  • Knowledge of hospital operations, healthcare revenue and expenditure; hospital funding processes and reporting requirements with the ability to provide subject matter advice.
  • High attention to detail to maintain integrity of financial data and compliance to accounting standards.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute operationally.
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal with a strong customer centric approach.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentorship of staff.
  • Advanced project management skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a large and complex organization.
  • Proven attendance record.
  • Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the job.

Preferably, your profile also includes:

  • Experience in a major ERP and Business Intelligence systems.
  • Healthcare experience.
