General Manager

This is a Contract position in Vaughan, ON posted November 24, 2022.

ADESA Canada is the country’s largest wholesale vehicle auction and remarketing services company.

ADESA provides state-of-the-art facilities and technologies to help dealers and consignors buy and sell used cars, trucks, RVs, boats, motorcycles and heavy equipment.

Located in Saskatoon, ADESA Saskatoon is one of ADESA Canada’s 14 wholesale vehicle logistic centers that are located across Canada, ADESA Saskatoon is currently looking for a General Manager.

Reporting into the Senior Vice President, Canadian Operations, the General Manager is responsible for the effective and efficient operations of the Vehicle Logistic Centers (VLC) and that includes leadership of staff and ensuring profitability and growth of the VLC.

Responsibilities include: Ensures profitability and growth, efficiency and consistent customer satisfaction by setting strategic direction and overseeing total auction operations.

Establishing plans, budgets, and results measurements; allocating resources, reviewing progress and making mid-course corrections.

Ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of auction accounting with weekly and monthly corporate reports.

Initiate and follow up on discrepancies.

Monitor accounts receivable and report variances to Senior Vice President & Regional Controller.

Ensure proper follow-through on all directives from the Senior Vice President, Canadian Operations and Corporate office.

Maintain a good flow of communication with Regional Vice President, Corporate partners, and other business units.

Promotes and instills ADESA values and culture throughout the organization.

Hire, train, develop, and promote employees within the VLC to company standards and guidelines.

Directly responsible for mentorship and supervision of the management team.

Maintain positive employee relations and morale whenever possible.

Practice sound leadership and human relations principles to promote teamwork at all times.

Resolve employee relations problems, complaints, suggestions, etc.

Evaluate and take positive, consistent, disciplinary action on infractions of company policies and procedures as defined in the employee disciplinary policy.

Conduct written warnings, suspensions and terminations of employees with the Human Resource Manager as necessary.

Establishes and enforces organization standards, policies, and procedures.

Grows, maintains and strengthens existing relationships with customers and enhances company image.

Ensure customers receive prompt, efficient and courteous attention for all contacts and transactions Be familiar with procedures for handling all aspects of customer complaints and disputes and resolve any customer complaints in a friendly, courteous manner.

Advise the Senior Vice President, Canadian Operations of all serious complaints or incidents.

Monitor all local competition and recommend competitive strategies to the Senior Vice President, Canadian Operations, other auctions and the local auction’s sales staff Improves the overall business by understanding operational processes and seeking continual improvements.

Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and company best practices, including practicing and instructing all employees in proper loss prevention, incident reporting, and response procedures.

Education & Experience Requirements: University Degree or equivalent training/experience Minimum 3 years relevant business experience/automotive experience preferred Minimum 5 years in a management or relationship management role Strong working knowledge of vehicle remarketing industry preferred High degree of ethics and integrity Proven track record in relationship management and change management Strong business acumen and experience dealing with process & system development Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal communication, and coaching skills Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills with ability to comfortably juggle multiple demands to achieve results Proficient in Microsoft Office applications Must be qualified to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid drivers’ license Mandatory background check conducted and cleared by ADESA We appreciate all applications, however, only candidates selected for interview will be contacted.
