Production Supervisor – Afternoon Shift

Job Introduction Achieves production targets by clearly communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures, while maintaining a safe, healthy and clean working environment.

Allocates direct and support staff resources in conjunction with respective Department Managers to efficiently fix issues on the shop floor and fulfill production requirements Major Responsibilities Exercise supervisory control over plant personnel and day to day production activities by providing guidance and assistance in non-routine problems and complaints, within the scope of the Employee’s Handbook Ensure Production Lead Hands are trained and executing their duties in an efficient and effective manner, with regard to standardized work instructions, control cards, quality, safety procedures and efficiency targets Practice excellent customer service by being proactive and providing Production Lead Hands with the tools they need to do their job before they have to ask for them Ensure that safe working procedures and good housekeeping practices are adhered to at all times by all employees on the shop floor and in extensions to the shop floor (parking lot, lunchrooms, etc) Conducts standardized work reviews with Production Lead Hands and Operators on a regular frequency to ensure 100% compliance Align Production priorities with the shipping department to ensure parts are available within the plant when needed and finished goods ship on time Responsible for ensuring product quality and authorized to stop production to correct quality problems Ensure that plant efficiency is maintained at the highest possible level without sacrificing safety, quality and plant standards.

Report reasons for downtime to Operations Manager in a timely manner Ensure that Production Lead Hands update live team boards (Production Boards) with accuracy and correct information by auditing on a frequent basis Ensure that shift production and related reports are processed accurately into Trans4M and printed copy correlates to entries and is signed off, and on time Work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure the setup and changeover of machines are completed to meet the production schedule Ensure proper containment procedures are being followed for suspect material throughout the plant Participate in total team involvement and problem solving by working together and seeking to understand different viewpoints before reacting Manage non-routine issues as they arise within business units to alleviate the Production Lead Hand’s time and attention the his/her business unit Follow up on all open issues to ensure on time closure and communicate status updates to all respective parties.

Escalate supplier concerns when needs not being met to upper management Complete Layered Audits as scheduled Perform health and safety audits on the shop floor daily Attend and actively participate in Fast Response meetings Responsible for performance management of the plant personnel through timely performance appraisals, training, effective discipline, timely feedback to concerns and /or questions, and managing the Employee Charter.

Completes required counseling and manages Progressive Discipline according to Employee Handbook.

Conduct onboarding with all new Operators by training them on MSM’s policies and procedures, as well as DOJO simulation Daily maintenance of employee attendance in EZ Labour.

Ensure adequate vacation planning in EZ Labour (not to exceed 10% of shift headcount) without interrupting production Manage overtime by working with the shipping department and posting the requests by the specified deadline Follow up with workers who are absent without a reason Lead multiple health and safety committees, including, but not limited to Spill and Emergency Rescue Perform other duties as required Knowledge and Education College or University Degree in a related field, or equivalent experience Work Experience 5 years of manufacturing experience in a fast-paced automotive tier 1 environment 5 years’ experience in a Supervisory/Managerial role leading direct and indirect reports Skills and Competencies Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively and efficiently with management personnel and production floor employees Able to provide clear direction with specific goals and results Experience in coaching, process improvement, quality management, safety management and production metrics Able to communicate fluently in English (both written and spoken).

Self-starter and effective listener with a customer service mindset.

Mechanical aptitude and critical thinking skills, including experience working on complex problems that require quantitative analysis Proficient with Windows Operating software, as well as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint Knowledge of manufacturing software and systems, as well as SPC, considered an asset Highly organized and detail orientated, and comfortable working with tight deadlines Demonstrated ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced production environment Proven ability to instill continuous improvement in day to day activities through implementation and follow through of effective action plans and total team involvement Must be able and willing to work overtime as necessary including weekends when required.
